Lyttelton West School

AP Design were commissioned to design a new classroom for Lyttelton West School. The first task was to find a location for the new building. The only flat areas of the school were the tennis courts and a small grassy field both of which were highly valued by the children at the school. AP Design came up with the concept of building the classroom straddling the existing classroom on stilts. The project also had to allow for a future classroom and teacher work area.

The classroom featured a lift which would serve the future classroom. The second stage had been designed and was ready to go however the Canterbury Earthquakes stalled that.  Then in 2014 it was decided to merge Lyttelton West school with Lyttelton Main School on their current.
