When the design of this earthquake rebuild project was starting, the client (an avid tramper) was adamant – the young Kauri tree had to be protected! Squeezed between the aforementioned native tree, a stream, and an existing garage this house enjoys a charming outlook over a planted stream bank.
A mono pitch roof and simple timber and coloursteel cladding means the house nestles quietly into the Fendalton landscape. While blonded match lining creates a pleasing contrast against the wall of greenery outside. A clever plan separate the living from the sleeping wings, while ensuring the north-south orientation still enjoys natural light and privacy. The Kauri survived, and is now front and center to life in this new home.
